Study rooms in McIntyre Library are intended to support academic work of current UWEC students as individuals or groups. We endeavor to provide equitable access to library study rooms for all students.

Two types of student study rooms are available in McIntyre Library:

  1. On-Demand (36 rooms)
    • First come, first served. Ask at the library main desk for availability.
  2. Reservable (8 rooms)
    • Reserve online or ask for a demo at the library main desk.

Due to the high demand for study rooms, McIntyre Library has established these policies:

  • A current student may use/book a study room for up to 3 hours per day.
    • Extensions/renewals are possible if one other room key is available for use at the time of the request.
    • Two people must be at the library’s main desk to pick up a key for the large study rooms.
  • If you reserved a room, pick up the key at the main desk within the first 15 minutes of your scheduled time.
    • The room will be released to others if the key is not picked up within the first 15 minutes of the reservation.  Why? We do this to provide equitable access to high-demand services.
  • Study rooms are not soundproof.  3rd floor rooms are best used for noise, while 4th and 5th floors are intended for quiet study.  Occupants are expected to follow the appropriate noise guidelines for each floor.
  • Return the key to the library desk by the end of the reservation time.
    • A $5 per hour overdue fine will be assessed if the key is not returned in time.
    • If a key is lost, the individual who checked out the room will be responsible for a $100 lost fee.  Why? The room will need to be re-keyed and others will not be able to use it during this time.

Other Best Practices:

  • The earliest you can create a reservation is three hours in the future.  If you need a room before that, please ask at the desk for an on-demand room.
  • Contact the library desk if you no longer need a reservation.
  • Report problems with a room to library staff.
  • Rooms are meant to be available for as many students as possible.  Please do not create back-to-back bookings with group members.
